Meron and I have been noodling with the idea of a Ned get together on Salt Spring Island mid-May this year, possibly kind of themed around: online social networks into real world actions.

When I think to some of my favorite moments at previous get-togethers I think of the wonderful evening at Barbara's San Diego a couple years ago, and the fabulous barn-side movie night at the Peace Tiles get together in Vermont, and many, many moments in Uganda.

So, what could Ned Salt Spring Island look like? 2-3 days on a beautiful island, loosely organized, easy-going, great food, great times with great people.

Possibly a Peace Tiles workshop.

Possibly a tour of Solar Energy Host and/or Hairy Kids

Possibly looking into Salt Spring Dollars and what alternative currency means

Definitely all the Salt Spring Island Coffee you can drink

Definitely meeting some of the incredible people from SOLID

Maybe, maybe if we're really, really lucky...we can somehow meet in the spectacular Ango Retreat

In the meantime, if it sounds like something you might be interested in (no "conference fees", just applicable travel/room/board needs) raise your hand and say...

..."definitely, count me in"

..."would love to, need to look at my sked"

..."hell no, we wont go"

If we get a handful of Nedsters, well we'll make it happen...and it'll be wow.

Cool beans.

BTW, dates lookin' at: 5/16-5/18

It'll be a very Canadian-Neddish time, eh.

I am thinking, I am thinking....

I believe I need to make a trip to the States this summer (read that as I will never go home in snow again!). Let me work on this.

It'd be great to see you there. Salt Spring Island is a pretty special place. Gulu and Vermont were the two big 2007 events... if enough hands go in the air, this one should be a blast as well.

definitely, count me in

We've been talking about this here and are all VERY excited about it so hope there is enough interest.

Please check out the link to Solar Energy Host. Especially the Gardens of Hope page : ) $5.00 from each new account plants a tree. And if you are thinking about changing hosts just mention that SOLID sent you and we'll receive a commission! The SOLID site will soon be hosted here ... now if I could just figure out Joomla!!! Any helpers out there??? [Aside, they are certainly <ned> minded type folk Solar Energy Host Joins Kiva.org] I think this is a definite must visit.

The Hairy Kids people are friends of mine, I'm sure they would be up for a <ned> visit.

There is much to see, do and lovely people to meet here on beautiful SaltSpring Island. I'm excited about the possibilities!!!

That'd be great if the sked/balance book works out Lars. Great indeed.

Meron, we'll see...this may be a lead item that can be included in the first Ned News Newsletter that goes out via Group PM to the Front Porch Group of all 400+ Nedsters (sometime in January here).

Two people's names that came up at Peace Tiles Vermont as members that we all "know" but would very much like to meet face-o-face : Peter Rees and Soren Gordhamer. Perhaps we can strong-arm those two into making the journey as well.

Hey y'all, Will try to make this work. That's about the time we'll be finishing the treehouse though. I'll know more about the timing after Friday when we have a big treehouse meeting with the construction team and architects.

It would be AWESOME to be there.

Hey Cynthia g/f!!! It would be wonderful to see you here.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed ... I know a thing or two about construction teams, architects and schedules, take the finish date they tell then add on about three weeks : )

Mr. Rees did bless this thread with 3 points, do you suppose that is indicating interest or do we need to bring out the <ned> thugs?

>>do we need to bring out the <ned> thugs?<<

We can slip him a mickie and ship him over on the BC Ferry.

In the noodling bit at the beginning, I can't see a category that says, "Really want to this could be the logistical challenge of 2008 .....".

Linda and I spoke of Christina's trip (and possibilities) a while ago and there are now firm dates over here.

I need to check to see if John B. is still planning on being in Bangkok (email is coming my dear) and play it from there due to study schedules and another trip I have planned. (and I'm still waiting on exam schedules for 2008 - oh, did I mention I'm studying again this year!)

Here's the question for all things Canadian.

Are these dates locked in?

Cynthia mentioned a possible timing difficulty and Linda might be in the States but later in the year.

Is an August date out of the question?

Just checking to see if there is any wriggle room.

My Asian travel plans depend a lot on how fast I can walk after I get out of my cast (5-7 weeks from now). I have to go to India, Nepal Cambodia and Thailand, and possibly one more country. So given the planning I have yet do do for that I dont know if I can make this - but I would love to.

That just saved me writing an email, John!

So my answer is a big, fat "not sure" on the Canada gathering at this point.

(I mean, I will see if I can make it out to the gathering. Apologies for the somewhat opaque posting...)

One of the conflicts I anticipated - the sickle cell camp family day I'll be putting on - ends up being May 4th so that clears that one. The treehouse is the other, and there's just no telling at the moment. Mid-May may actually be the perfect time.

I think if we get at least 6 non-Salt Spring members on board, we'll give it a go in May. Nothing from keeping another Ned gathering happening later in 2008 if desired.

US members keep in mind up to 6 weeks to get your passport, which is now needed to cross into Canada as well.

This year has been FULL of things I've never done! In fact, ever since I stumbled on omidyar.net my life has been crazy that way. Will definitely work on making this happen if it's a go.

Do Ray and Jackie count? And if so, do they count as one or two? :D

With all they do, I think they count at least double!

(Meron, are you supplying s'morz?)
