Welcome to Ned. Please tell other members what you do, what your passion is, how you found Ned, and even what you like to do to make the world a better place (if you wish). Simply just introduce yourself and say howdy to other members as they do the same.

Ultimately whether you spend 15 minutes at Ned a month or 2-3 hours a day, each Ned member needs to find their own Ned Muse to let the Ned community become a meaningful part of their lives. Human beings connecting.

This is your community, your ideas, your time, your efforts, and your actions. This is a community of real people, using real names, working in the real world (well, and at Ned)...taking real actions to make the world a better place. Really.

We are fortunate enough to enjoy incredible members from many countries around the world, and we all work together in a community of mutual respect and humor with an eye towards doing real world things and making the world a better place. Have fun, and please if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask a question here, Nedsters tend to be a very friendly sort. Many of us have met face-to-face at various events around the world during the last three years.

Okay, introductions...I started the thread going...so having drawn the short straw, I'll go first.

I am Linda Nowakowski. I am an American ex-pat living in the Issan region of northeastern Thailand. I teach mainly Economics in the Faculty of Management Science at Ubon Ratchathani University. I am also a graduate student in the Integral Development Studies Program doing research in Heterodox Economics and the development of metrics for measuring development in non-monetary communities primarily focusing on children.

  • I love learning, discovering how people learn and helping other people learn. I knew I would be a teacher in the 3rd grade!
  • I believe that ethics is important. Maybe more important than anything else. It is the foundation of trust, society AND economics no matter what anyone tells you. :-)
  • Ugly things happening to children from bad teaching in Thailand to disenfranchised Karen refugee families to disease and starvation in Uganda to psychological abuse in the US to genocide in Darfur fire me to action.
  • Meeting people from this network face-to-face refreshes and enlivens me!

Your turn....

(EDIT grammar - shame on me!)

Its great having KJT's Coach Kabugo here on Ned!

I know you share your home with many of the orphans who play for the team. Could you tell us a bit more about this?

Thanks for your big heart.

:)

Hi, I'm Jeff Eskow. I am almost 39, and have spent my entire life in "Sales".

It occured to me, thru a series of semi-related circumstances, that the internet had become rife with all of these eStores offering the "widest Selection" and the "Lowest Price". Unfortunately, one store looked just like the other and no one had a real story to tell...

Then, I started to meet people who use their eStores to help the charities that move them. One store I like donates 3% of their profits to help the poor in Uganda. Another lets their customer choose what charity gets 10-25% of the profits from the sale. A third only offers environmentally safe, socially conscience products for the home.

And so on.

I found Ned.com thru Squidoo. Mark had a lens or two there and I attempted to contact him to tell him about the website that donates profits to Uganda. When I got here and looked around I thought it would be smart to 'wade in' and meet other people who work hard ot help others.

Thank you to all who have made me feel welcome. I look forward to collaborating.

Hello Jeff, glad you're here wading around. What I like about Ned is the ability to have sustained conversations. I'm sure you'll find others here who have an interest in the importance of stories. I hope you'll find collaborators here.

Hello, my name is Scott Paterson, I'm 41 and am currently living in San Francisco with my wife whom I've been with for 20 years and our newborn daughter, Lily. I'm the webmaster for a Saab enthusiast web site called Saabnet.com which I first founded in 1988 on the Internet as a mailing list. I became interested in Microfinance when my wife gave me an article to read about it two years ago and became an active participant in microinvesting when I found Kiva.org this past June. I also founded the non-profit organization, Poverty2Prosperity.org.

I found Ned through the Teams function of Kiva.org. This looks like a friendly place and I hope to be able to participate regularly.

Thanks,

-Scott

Welcome aboard Scott, great to have you here and congratulations on Lily. Hope you guys get close the the stage were you can sleep again ;-)

Fantastic to have you here, and thrilled you found Ned thru the new Kiva Teams function. (there's a Kiva Teams discussion here: http://www.ned.com/group/microfi nance/news/11/)

Also, just FYI, there are many members at Ned from Uganda, Kenya and other countries who have actually been on the borrower side of Kiva (and other MFI) loans.
