I have just joined the family a few days back. But before coming to Sudan, i first worked with Educate an organization in Kampala with a similar idea like The Butterfly project Uganda.I have then developed the idea of starting the Hatford- initiative programme, a community based development effort to work towards addressing concerns with basic human values for better lives to the most magnalised.

Its to work in Kalangala district, an Island community in Lake Victoria, Uganda. In this attempt we have decided to introduce a school club programme as a way to involve these young people in the development process and turn them into socially responsible and committed citizens that are also self reliant, who can effectively work towards better lives in our society.

In the School club programme we intend to tackle areas like social entrepreneurship and micro businesses, basic human rights, social responsibility and leadership, good health and adolescent health in our communities, environmental protection as well as guidance and counseling to enable them be able to overcome life's challenges and identify the various opportunities underlying in our lives.

The resources for this club shall be mobilized by the club members, we shall encourage collective participation and also the initiative shall come in to assist. Through social entrepreneurship, the club shall set up income generating projects within the school to give entrepreneurial skills and business management to the members.

Through this we believe we shall have done something to this lake Victoria island community. My request is that if there is a possibility to obtain advice of how best this programme can be developed because its been planned to start February next year. Thank you all.

Congratulations on your initiative -- I'll be keen to know how things proceed.

One of the first things I'm inclined to ask -- do you have a source of financial support?

Thanks John, Hatford is community based and the primary resource shaall community support. We also intend to find more other partners in development in this community, country and International actors to work with them. Thirdly Hatford shall work on establishing community based income generating projects, so that it can be self sustaining. We believe by this the initiative shall be a success. But besides we shall keep on updating Ned family and still we to work together.

I've been thinking about Kalangala for quite a while now. With its inaccessibility it is performing poorly in schools and it clearly needs some initiatives tailored to its specific needs, whatever they may be.

There may be some funding available for Kalangala - not from me I hasten to add - but I'd be happy to look at feasibility to apply, especially if you are considering a Butterfly-style Club. I'd also consider coming to visit, perhaps with one or more of the Butterfly members.

Been in Kalangala but accessibility continues to lack here yet a great need prevails.
