Well as we launched the campain against poverty in the world, and as the UN declaration, First i would to thanks all the people sharing the shame caused globally.as per the african continent i would love us look at the root caused of poverty in africa, i believed africa is one of the back ward continet with allot of natural resource which is not being explored and manupulated well. and have the following view,as result of poverty in africa,

1-Lack of inadequate education, most african are illitrates hence remaind a big disease.to fight, and how?is big question.

2-Lack of unity, this is because of the geographical seting and tradition which differ from clands to the nation,as remaind big problems,we donot have one culture of doing things.

3-Collonisation by the western world,as result we can not stand on our owned.how can the local people in village or the camps come out of this problems

4-disease.due to many intevention and mode of doing thing have change, aloot of pollution, created water hence diseases like malria,HIV/AIDS,typhode are so rampaned in africa,. 5-civil wars and insurgentcy

6-Bad leaderships with selfish interest. . I here in would love global input on the way forward to eradicate poverty, in northern uganda,76% of people live below poverty lines and dafur, somali and even

George,

Just found this. Last week I finished reading "The White Man's Burden" by William Easterly. It is an incredible look at the impact that the last 50 years of International Aid has had on developing countries and what needs to be done to make up for it. I would highly recommend it to you if you can find it. If not, and you are interested, maybe we could have a discussion of the book in some kind of structured fashion. I have confidence that other people in this community have read this book.

George and Linda - I think this is a crucial discussion, and I would like to take part, as far as my limited knowledge and experience will allow.

Linda, I have put a reserve on the Easterly book at my local library - I look forward to reading it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Jon - I'm SO glad Linda mentioned this book here; it's one of those brilliant must reads.

Linda - do you think it is worth setting up a book club type arrangement? By that I mean announce a book's impending discussion & give everyone 2 months or so (to allow for library waiting lists and reading time) to maximise discussion participation.

What do you think?

And George - HI :)

Did I just hi-jack this thread by accident? If I did, sorry!

I think it is a great idea. Two month lead time and I should be able to get a book! hahahahha
