Hey folks!

I am looking for feedback on the revised Micro-Success online support group concept described below - specifically from social entrepreneurs whom I have spoken with previously about a social enterprise support group online, though feedback from others is also welcome!

After working with an offline group of socent start-ups for 6 months and providing informal mentoring support to others online, the text below is where I think I might like to go with an online group concept.

Before launching the concept officially, I would appreciate your thoughts - either here on ned, or by email, skype or twitter if we're connected through any of those platforms.

  • Does this sound like something that would be valuable to you as a social entrepreneur?
  • Does it sound like it could be doable for you in terms of what it would take to participate?
  • What might you add/take out of the mix of elements presented here?
  • What don't you understand?

Many thanks in advance!

Micro-Success: a collaborative support network for social entrepreneurs

Evolutionize It is reaching out to social entrepreneurs at any stage in their career to participate in a dynamic collaborative support network that includes early stage, midstage and late stage social entrepreneurs, along with those who find themselves in transition between social ventures.

Your participation in the Micro-Success Network lasts for a renewable 4 months, and involves working to develop or strengthen your venture in loosely structured collaboration with other social entrepreneurs -- one-on-one, as a group, and eventually as a network of groups. Specifically, Micro-Success offers:

  • a one-on-one mentoring/wisdom-sharing dialogue between you and another social entrepreneur in your group, whose aim is to help both of your current ventures in a creative give and take partnership;
  • your time & energy devoted to one on one collaboration with your Micro-Success partner is self-defined, self paced and ongoing via skype, IM or email, as both partners decide;
  • a group is 12 people (or 6 wisdom sharing partnerships). At least 1 partner joins a biweekly Micro-Success group call on skype for an hour, to briefly report on progress in your work together, and to request help, input & support from the group of any nature.
  • Optional monthly Micro-Success Network calls (including members from all groups) on topical issues related to social entrepreneurship offer the opportunity to dig deeper into the challenge areas that every social enterprise faces (ie, legal structures, measuring impact, building a board, developing revenue streams, etc.) Members will be invited to propose topics for the monthly calls.
  • As a network, Micro-Success members will jointly develop and participate in effective social media channels and creative finance generating mechanisms to support Micro-Success member ventures, and to grow the network 's size and value to it's members.

The spoken language in Micro-Success Group and Network calls will be English, but groups are open to social entrepreneurs from any country in the world. One on one collaborations can, of course, take place in any language that's comfortable to both partners.

The first Micro-Success support group for social entrepreneurs will run September - December, to be followed by more groups forming by the end of 2010.

Are you the right kind of Social Entrepreneur?

In the Micro-Success Network, you are a social entrepreneur if you have ever or are currently working to build a viable venture around your own creative ideas for generating a meaningful social impact.

If that describes you, then yes! Supportive help with your specific social enterprise challenges is on the way! Building a social enterprise can be a hard and lonely road; the Micro-Success network is where you'll find mentoring, moral support and practical knowledge from others who know what it takes to be there.

A modest participation fee of €8/$10 per month (payable 4 months in advance) will be requested to help build and sustain the Micro-Success Network's internal and external communication flows. Rest assured, our intent is to make your Micro-Success Network membership one of the wisest investments you'll ever make in your social enterprise!

Sound good? Please take 10 minutes to fill out the short Micro-Success pilot group application at xxxxxxxxx no later than Friday August 20th to participate in September through December.

We will subjectively screen to identify the most promising potential partnerships, and provide those applicants with information about each other on Friday, 27 August 2010. The 12 spots in the pilot group will be allocated to pairs who agree to partner up, on a first come-first serve basis.

P.S. (Please apply even if you think you'll have a problem paying the participation fee... we've got some ideas up our sleeve for ways we might be able to help some deserving cases, especially in developing countries.)

Hi Christina,

Great outline and structure, imho. Kudos for moving forward with this idea. As we discussed during a Skype call just now, Social Actions is in "transition mode" (http://bit.ly/SAtransition, http://bit.ly/SAlettersofrequest ) so less available to participate than before, but I still appreciate the opportunity to keep up to speed on what's being planned here.

It seems that the chemistry and mutual opportunity to learn and support within the individual pairings will have a big influence on this project's outcomes. Looking forward to reviewing the application and other vetting/partner-matching resources as those come together.

Christine
