:Title: a new LifeInAfrica.com :Author: Christina Jordan :Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 10:08:13 PST :Modified: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 14:27:30 PST :URL: http://www.ned.com/group/lia-global/news/0/ I've only got a few more tweaks before we go live again at lifeinafrica.com - get your free sneak preview over here: http://lifeinafrica.com/shop/crafts/ - all those "add to cart links" should be live should you feel inclined to use them! I'll post again when I've got the home page up to tie it all together. Meanwhile I could use some more help! I wanted to link to a couple of discussions about new programs in this group, but I don't have enough points. Should anyone be willing to start some new discussions for me I'd be ever so appreciative... I need 5 of them. Just start them with the title "spaceholder" and I'll go in and edit in the info that needs to be there. Many thanks in advance! ---- **Comments** :Author: Evvy Bryning :Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 10:26:02 PST Yipee! The new site is looking wonderful!!!!! But your website work is always wonderful. The five threads are done and ready for you to edit. I'll donate some points to you as well. :) ---- :Author: Christina Jordan :Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 14:31:24 PST ok the home page is up now. and I am going to bed! http://lifeinafrica.com heading to Gulu tomorrow and will try to spend some more time tweaking from there. It was really hard to get this up right now considering the "in-between stage" we're still at in many ways. The writing on some of the pages feels very flat to me... if any of you come across a page like that feel free to suggest a re-write! After Gulu I will definitely need to go back through each page to flesh them out a bit anyway. ---- :Author: John Powers :Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 14:44:46 PST I haven't looked all around, but it sure does look great. And with all the images it's amazing it loads ultra fast too. I love the shape of the Links on the sidebar--funny because I usually want them in a straight line. It's rare that a Web site opens up a whole world of engagement. I'm very happy you put a link to the Uganda Links Wiki, it encourages me to continue to work on it. And it makes me feel valued :-) Webbed Empowerment is a profound idea. I've heard it said in a matter of fact sort of way that depressed people actually have a better handle on the way things are than more optimistic people. Sometimes I just feel overwhelmed by the pressing problems we humans face. LiA offers a great gift for people, especially in America, to move from depression toward doing something. It's a model which we can use to begin solving more local challenges too. ---- :Author: Evvy Bryning :Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 15:03:29 PST John, WE always value you and the link page is fantastic. I am still going to add some more but just haven't had time. ---- :Author: Shawn Kelly :Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2007 09:10:43 PST Wow, it looks great. I cannot even imagine how difficult it must be to put something like this together with the limited connectivity and power. You are amazing. ---- :Author: Christina Jordan :Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2007 00:26:11 PST I could still really use some help with writing better copy. If there is anywhere you think the text could/should be written with more zing, please feel free to make suggestions! Shawn - thanks so much for your work on the new logo! I love the design but am wondering now that it's all put together if it's possible and/or useful to match the logo colors with the site more? what do y'all think? ---- :Author: Shawn Kelly :Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2007 10:23:31 PST Thank you Christina, and yes I think it would look great to use the logo colors on the site. ---- :Author: Christina Jordan :Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2007 12:00:39 PST Hmmm. Maybe next year when I have more time to fiddle with it we can coordinate on which color codes to use in both. Unfortunately, this template is still the one I've been using for years, and the way it's coded I'll have to make the changes page by page. I really wouldn't mind changing the overall color scheme if it seems useful for branding purposes, but I don't imagine having the time to think about doing that big of an overhaul until about May. In the meantime, Shawn could it be worth playing with the logo colors so they matched the current site template better? I don't know how much work that involves (and I know you are busy selling beads for us!) I think it's the mismatch in the browns that bothers my own eye the most, and I'm missing the blue. I don't dislike the colors you've used at all, mind you. Just trying to see how we can merge it for maximum effect with what we already have. Would you mind playing with it a bit more? ---- :Author: Shawn Kelly :Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2007 16:12:18 PST Not a big deal at all, I will work on it. ---- :Author: Grace Ayaa :Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2007 21:19:20 PST My, it's wonderful and just easily accessible, I love the way all the programs have been designed. ---- :Author: Allison Coyne Carroll :Date: Wed, 06 Feb 2008 14:16:20 PST Wonderful work Christina! I like how you clearly outline the action they can take: "Here's 3 great ways to make an impact with Life in Africa today" ---- :Author: Barbara Horst :Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 08:34:52 PST :Modified: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 08:36:43 PST I'm so happy to see a website up. Thank you so much, Christina! I've been trying to get a delivery to Life In Africa for a month. Two attempted express deliveries - one on the 6th of Feb, the other on the 22nd. I fear it will be returned. This is the correct address? Thanks ... I know Teopista may have been sick and may still be... If someone there would be willing to call the Post Office there and ask them to hold it for her there, that would be ever helpful! I can send the tracking # privately.
