Thank you first to Grace Ayaa for suggesting we partner with Life in Africa, and for visting wonderful Esther Atoo, Director of Children of Hope in Lira.

Since my visit in March, 2007 to the original 43 orphans victimized by the Lord's Resistance Army I have found it hard to help from such a great distance. Through Life in Africa's Web Empowerment, Canada seems much closer to Uganda now.

Sustainability is the problem. Esther and I have been planning income generating activities to make the payment of school fees for the now 163 children sustainable. Esther has already started paper bead necklace production with the caregivers committee, as these gorgeous necklaces sell very well in Toronto.

The next income generating activity, sewing school uniforms, just needs the seed money of $700 to purchase 5 sewing machines. A small grant of $700 from Life in Africa would launch this excellent income stream and help us keep these children in school for a brighter future, for them and their community.
