Internet4Change & Click4Africa training @ Kampala and Gulu

As discussed in meetings with the CBO boards of both centers, I am offering 2 internet training workshops at each center before I leave to Thailand on 6 Feb.

Click4Africa

This course will introduce ways for beginners to participate in earning internet time for your center by participating in specific activities online. All members who have email addresses and accounts open at facebook and ned.com are qualified to attend. This course will be perfect for beginners, but they will have to have active email, ned and facebook accounts opened in order to begin.

The Click4Africa course will consist of 3 x 1.5 hours of lecture time plus assignments. Participants should schedule an additional 1 hour of connected time each per lecture (outside of the lecture time) to complete assignments.

Please sign up no more than 3 people per computer for this course.

Internet4Change 2008

This course will discuss formats for member profiles and online proposal / reporting content that can be created to serve your community via the Life in Africa WE Network online.

Members with the skills and potential to serve as online proposal champions for the community should attend, as should those who would like to participate in the verification and monitoring of online-funded initiatives at LiA (and other) CBOs in Uganda on behalf of online project supporters.

Active email, facebook, ned.com and flickr.com accounts are required.

Participants should also pre-arrange an interview with 1 community member immediately following the first course meeting, (not another trainee) whose profile they will work on building as an assignment.

Please sign up no more than 2 people per connected computer for this 3 part course. Each part will include a 1.5 hour lecture and practical assignments. Participants should expect to spend an additional 2.5 - 3 hours on assignments after every course meeting.

Yes - one member may participate in both courses.

An overview of what this means for your computer room at each center is as follows:

Kampala

Wed 23 Jan Internet4Change 10-11.30 am

Gulu

Wed 30 Jan Internet4Change 10-11.30 am

Thu 31 Jan Click4Africa 3 - 4.30 pm

Fri 01 Feb Internet4Change 10-11.30 am / Click4Africa 3 - 4.30 pm

Sat 02 Feb Internet4Change 10-11.30 am

Mon 04 Feb Click4Africa 3 - 4.30 pm

A 3-4 day follow-up workshop will be held in late March at both centers, to consolidate and expand upon what is learned this time around, and to troubleshoot practical issues that may arise in using these new skills.

I have read the news for the training schedule for for Internet 4 change in Gulu and Kla,
Its a good training that both centres will beneffit so much and i expect our ownline reporting which will improve.

My only request is that it should not only be for the staffs only but also someinternet 4 change Volunteers to benefit from the training at least 6 from each centres.

HOWEVER , there is some thing which needs much attention of the technical people in the field of Computer.

How can i use other tools on NED? say i wants to draw a table, increase the font size, font colours and other things.

Can anyone help.

I will appreciate

am very glad to be here once again.
some times i luck what to do, that how i enjoy what i do. reflecting upon life in Africa and its programmers, lia members are yet to benefit big time things from what is laid ahead of them.yes !

some of the programmes include, lia can, micro success, adult life, lia 4 kids, and most of all internet 4change.

maybe if i should ask. to what extent are members benefiting from these pro grammes.
internet4change in particular, leaving other things constant. what i don't understand clearly is weather this can be offered as a service to non members as another stream of income to the lia community.

i think members, we need your input as regards to this, am really concerned, not that i have the best opinion, but may by we can make this thread active too.
in the name of balancing things, i don't know, but i realize there is a gap, and the only way to bridge it is by offering your input like you're doing on other threads.

Yes Arnold, it's really nice meeting you on this thread and am so glad that this question is coming up to find out where everyone is because they are not on this thread.

When we had our last conference in Gulu, we came out with very many plans and election of members who had to take on some responsibilities until we settled down, but when we came out of the conference room, everybody seems to have disappeared save for a few who are still trying to struggle.I am quite aware that people have their different problems that will never allow them to be in one place yet they need to look for survival and that could have been the possible drawback that we had.

Maybe we have to go back to the drawing board and see who should handle what from the members. It makes a lot of sense to try and put all those computers into more use. right now it's just almost idle with a few people coming to the cafe. We could talk of computer training for both members and non members at different rates, this can surely be some source of income for the communities.Maybe we should organize a very big meeting for each center and for those of us who are on line, an announcement be made so that all can attend, because with the member meetings that we have been having,we mainly have these members who do not have computer knowledge. I just feel that the main issue here is to get together and begin it from where we stopped the other time.

Arnold your input here will be most appreciated, since you helped a lot in the development of this program at our last conference in Gulu.
