It took place for three days. Our grand ma Evvy was also around. The children where very happy to see her. Evvy gave them her word and alot of good promises, like Life in africa U.S.A. is going to be working together with life in Africa where by it will be raising funds for childrens progams as LiA U.S.A, When school begings the kids will be haveing after noon activities with heavy lunch during saturdays, she came with many art materals were by they will use them during the week end programs and she will come back again. In these three days the children had fun and alot of games, gifts which they won from some of the games and answering questions. Meghan and Arron came with grand ma Evvyy. They also joined the kids. megahn was busy taking the pictures you are seeing. She said she enjoyed every thing during the program. she also promised to come back. .. image:: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2329/2207364520_3cf3f30cd8_m.jpg With Arron he joined the children and enrolled in every program. During the story telling class, he told the kids a nice story about people and the half pig people. the kids did not want the story to end. The children told them their stories too. And two of Christina's sons Tomas and Lucurs were also there. One of them called Lucurs presented a dance while scotting down which made the children to laugh. .. image:: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2237/2207351502_e1de20301d_m.jpg They also had teaching from one of the students from mukono university called Eric Ojobile. He taught them about" commitement leads to Exclence". It's so good and fun to see these children together having all this on their side and enjoy what life in Africa is doing for them. We hope to have more next holiday. Have a look at some of the pictures we took when having games and shading. .. image:: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2160/2206565887_bbcc0a5e5d_m.jpg .. image:: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2210/2206569505_8617048d47_m.jpg Christina will help me post more of the photos. Evvy came with some i dear for the drawing board . I tried to look for the material from Gulu but could not get it. Is there any where in Kla where it is being sold? For us we also don't have chairs and tables but we used some of the benches and tables from the center. So from the idea grand ma evvy gave us of getting drawing boards i think its a good one. Now to get these boards i think we should go to these carpentry stors and tell them to make for us wooden boards of the sizes we want our kinds to use, and find out how much it will coast. Like if we get a group of 4 to 6 kids on one board which means the board has to be enough for them., where by they can share among them selves the drawing materals that have been given to each of them on one board. Here they will also learn how to share. Lets try it. If these idea i have talked of is not wooking for you then i will have to do what you have asked for. We had 34 kids. and the blue band you are talking of i think it's important we shall think of it. ---- :Author: Grace Ayaa :Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2008 04:22:37 PST Jesca, the pictures are really nice. It was a very nice time for the kids. Thanks to Megan and Aaron who really inspired the children both in Gulu and kampala. They had the real experience with the children and Aaron was very brave to tell the children about his life and how he thinks it's very important for one to go to school and finish it to be okay in future. I for one was so touched to see a 13 year old giving a lecture to the very attentive audience, and I wished we had more times like this to help give hope to our traumatized children especially those from Gulu. Megan on the other hand was really very resposible talking about herself and telling the children how hard she is going to work to make them known in her school especially. Not of course forgetting our own Thomas and Lucas ( Christina's Boys)who also joined us in kampala for all the three days, Lucas who was everybody's friend in one day, is still the talk of the village , those who were not part of the program, are feeling jealous for not meeting with him. These Children really impressed me so much and I pray that we have them again in the near future. ---- :Author: robert oketa :Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2008 05:21:34 PST Hey, Can some one try to edit for me the above Budget and put it in the Table. ---- :Author: Linda Nowakowski :Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2008 07:01:22 PST === === ================ ========== ========= ============ 1. . I have actually visited both centers at the pick of their activities, and as I observed, in kampala, we may end up sending away some of the children because after the first day, all the talk of the children from the center was how lovely the whole thing was. Gulu had their setup a little different in that children ate roasted meat and some rice and some vegetables and fruits and juice at the end of it all. I really wish Robert had put that particular picture. it was more or les like a barbaque party, very cool! This shows how much you love this program. Thanks also for the comment you made about the documentation. In fact this is the 3rd month since Life in Africa started this program. Am so happy for them. Stephane you asked me a quetion saying If am to make a list of wish, what would i wish for? Haaa......This question have come at the right time. 1). I wish these kids should all be given education. By raising funds as LiA U.S.A is doing. 2). Owning a parmanet place for the kids to carry on thier activities. So that this business of renting is solved. Because its a big problem here in Kampala. Ones you are running such a big thing they will make you pay for the full year and axpensively. 3). Having these kids in a good schools. 4).Sponsoring more kids vai the school fees puls the requirements and playing equipments. What i mean is to fully sponsor them. 5). I wish there are people who realy have heart for these kids by just asking for a child and say Jesca out of the handreds of kids you have get for me a boy or a girl with all of his / her information, am going to spornsor him / her i know by doing this you will be come a savour parent of this kid. There is this boy called Simon Opio whose parents pased away during the war. LiA U.S.A is paying his school fees. I tell you this boy had no any thing to let him think that one day he will ever go to school. The day we did the children survy we picked him as to be sponsored. the day i was taking him to be registered at school he could not believe it, i think he thought he was deaming. If you see this boy he feels that there is some one who cares for him. When he sees me from a far distance he will come running towards me with this big smile Oooo God, i wish you could have the chance of seeing him in action. So please kids are most of the paramount thing to think of. These are some of the immdiate wishes i have for you other wise there is alot to do for these kids to make them feel loved by some one. Now that the program has been running for many weeks, I wonder, if you were making a wish list, what would you wish for? like any one else, i think i love kids too even when i gat none. i'll agree am not too much into food, but i thank God for all this happening in the lives of my young brothers and sisters, most of all regards to Jessica. its more of sawing a seed, which at on time its going to germinate and give fruit, kids can be anything and whatever you're doing in the lives of the young ones, will manifest at one time. reflecting upon paone's comment, its a good one. actually it would be cool if the kids gave in their opinions. not saying that Jessica's is not genuine, but in the name of empowerment, another observation, like Jessica said, they need a home, but it should in form of a recreation center/ resources center, don't know which is which but at least within that realm. ---- :Author: Ndelo Peter :Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2008 02:32:34 PDT Thanks to Arnold for that in put, Arnold said **like Jessica said, they need a home, but it should in form of a recreation center/ resources center, don't know which is which but at least within that realm** well english has many terms and at the end of it all it would mean the same thing. For kids to be empowered or to give in their own oppions, not second hand information, they need to have what Arnold calls recreation center. The center will have all the resources like computer and internent to allow them air out their personal views. Akim talked of doing things in phases, right now for children's program there is weekly nutritious food given to kids and also kids being sponsered both at primary level and secondary. This is a starting point but alot is still needed for these kids. More sponsers are still needed to come and intervene in this program, If more sponsers come more kids fees shall be paid and the recreational center shall be built because right now there is no where, where we can train them how to use computer and air out their oppinions. Before those things happen, Jessica as the childern's coordinator I think will have to be getting the kids ideas/oppinions and share with those who can access their information and see where intervention is needed. Kids are our future and they need every ones support so that they can carry on from where we shall stop. Thanks to the originator of this topic and all our supporters out there. ---- :Author: Jesca Wassa :Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2008 03:59:06 PDT Hi and Report from Kampala Kireka, we are fine the only problem we are having is things are getting higher and too expensive every day. We are limited to do most of the things we would be doing by now. at least for the games they don't sit in one place for long. But keep on we are stil here.** Jessica, I think you have mistaken this, we had the forth week but we did not have the first week instead of forth week as you put because the money for this month that was to start on 2/8/2008 was late then we started on 9th/8/2008. which means that this months program is ending on 3oth/8/2008 instead of 23rd/8/2008.
