:Title: Click4Africa 2008 - Round One (1 Feb - 15 June 2008) :Author: Christina Jordan :Date: Sat, 02 Feb 2008 14:12:54 PST :Modified: Sat, 02 Feb 2008 14:19:21 PST :URL: http://www.ned.com/group/lia-usa/news/8/ From 1 Feb through 15 June 2008, Life in Africa USA is challenging teams at two community owned telecenters in Uganda to a click4africa CONTEST to earn financial help with the ongoing costs of keeping their community connected to the Internet. In addition to monthly connectivity awards the two teams can earn each month, and an investment in computers and connectivity quality upgrades that one team will win in mid June, any Click4Africa participants who are **Ugandan citizens** can also win **monthly prizes and cash awards** for leading in the race to earn click4africa points for their team. Whoever you are, you are invited to click4africa too! When you qualify to have your online activity at Ned.com, facebook.com and iGive.com counted toward your favorite team's total, you are helping that team EARN their internet time and WIN investments in connectivity infrastructure at their community center. Non Ugandan participants can also earn bonus donations to their team's internet budget each month, win prizes donated by LiA supporters, and qualify for the opportunity to win a really tremendous prize in the second round of click4africa 2008, during the second half of the year (how about free trip to Uganda?) How can I join a click4africa team? ----------- Introducing the `Click4Gulu`_ and `Click4Kireka`_ teams! **To qualify** to participate and to have your points counted toward keeping your favorite Click4Africa team connected, you must complete ALL of the simple steps below: 1. Join `ned.com`_ a. fill out your profile using your real names b. add the team name you wish to support as a TAG on your profile (**click4kireka** or **click4gulu**) c. Join these 3 groups: `NedUganda`_, `Life in Africa Global`_, and `Life in Africa USA`_ 2. After wrapping up with the click4gulu team training today, here are the approximate team standings: http://lifeinafrica.com/c4a/feb0208.htm I haven't yet looked at the iGive activity, but with facebook and ned.com alone the **click4kireka** team is well on the way to qualifying! **click4gulu** you have many people started but very few people actually qualified. For this snapshot of your current team standings (linked above) I've included even people who haven't tagged their ned profile. When we take the next snapshot on 15 February, we will be counting ONLY the people who have tagged their profile with your team name. Be sure every person follows ALL the steps above so that your partial qualifyers become full participants by then. ---- :Author: Linda Nowakowski :Date: Sat, 02 Feb 2008 18:34:54 PST I have joined the click4gulu team (Seems fair since that is who I will be working with when I come there next spring.) I have created a `discussion thread`_ for our team to share information. And don't anyone from Kireka look.....I know that Peter and Ezra will try to get you to use our ideas... HAHHHAH. May the hardest working team win! .. _`discussion thread` : http://www.ned.com/group/lia-global/news/8/ ---- :Author: Christina Jordan :Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2008 16:35:37 PST Clarification ------ Christina Jordan wrote: At iGive.com * the number of shops you've visited (/2) Forgot to mention that only 10 visits per day count, and they must be unique visits for that month. Any other rules of the ongoing iGive surfathon apply. For the click4africa contest, you only get 1/2 a point for each shop you visit, but you'll get 2000 points if one of your visits wins a $1000 bonus for the cause in the iGive monthly drawing. ---- :Author: George Ovola :Date: Mon, 04 Feb 2008 02:34:36 PST Linda This is great have you here for the cause,i would liove see everybody joined this caused to fireup up with the post war,and change the nation thanks. ---- :Author: Evvy Bryning :Date: Wed, 06 Feb 2008 11:20:08 PST Hello Click4Africa teams, Here's a tip for you to earn more points on .....PARTICIPATE! We are counting feedback points and the best way to get points is by participating. If you just lurk around and read, your points will not grow very fast but if you jump in and make comments or start new discussions, your points will grow much faster. Don't be shy, there are a lot of discussions here that will welcome your comments and a lot of really nice people who want to hear from you. I understand your hesitation. When I first joined Onet, I didn't make a comment for a long time. I thought I wasn't smart enough for these really fantastic people to participate in their discussions. I thought no one would be interested in what I had to say. But then one day I just jumped in and I was so surprised. Everyone welcomed me with open arms. They were so glad to hear from me and made me feel welcome and appreciated. They really listened to what I had to say and that encouraged me to say more. The same will happen to you, I guarantee it. So, I am going to start a new discussion thread over here http://www.ned.com/group/lia-usa/news/9/ and I hope that the click4gulu and the click4kireka teams will join me. Keep on clicking! ---- :Author: Grace Ayaa :Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2008 01:34:34 PST Hello click4africa team members, here are more tips on how you can earn more points , this will encourage you in the next round , because we are left with just about one day for the updates, but it's never too late for others to join becuase we shall still have the next round. Just follow the tips below to understand better what to do : make 1 post every 2-3 days or so, in whatever order makes sense to you, especially if people are asking questions that are relevant to some of the answers here. There are more topics that the teams need instructions about. I'm thinking maybe Evvy can write/post some new tip posts while Grace posts these that are already prepared, but I will let you work that out together. At Ned.com, your friends list only grows through other people choosing to give personal feedback points to you. Ned is a place where active, transparent discussion and action oriented behavior are rewarded by your fellow nedsters. Here's some of the behaviors that many of us nedsters love to see, and that we often reward each other for in points. 1. **Give points** to your friends, to newcomers to ned, or to people whose profiles seem interesting. Be sure to include an uplifting note. Use your own point giving as a tool for introducing yourself and inviting dialogues which can lead to interesting friendships. 2. **Say something** in a thread. Ask for help, or help someone else if you can. Browse through the front porch and Uganda groups to find or start discussions of general interest to you, or make a comment on the LiA program information you find in the Life in Africa Global group. *When you post something to a discussion, people will SEE you and are more likely to start sending you points.* 3. **Collaborate with others** - a great place to start is with your global click4africa team-mates. Go to the ned home page and click on your team tag to find a list of ned.com members supporting your team. Send them private messages asking for ideas on how to increase your team's point totals. 5. **Be committed**. Engage in discussions that interest you on a regular basis. Use the ned space to discuss and develop your own ideas for making a social impact in the world and in your community. At , everyone's ideas matter. The very best way to make friends at Ned.com is by showing your passion for yours. The click4africa teams could consider creating workspaces to tell people why your team deserves their support. You can include a description and photos from your center. Maybe even a budget for what you would do with a shs7-10m connectivity grant if your team wins that prize. Include instructions (copied from this thread) that include recruiter links that will earn points for your team, and invite people to join. Any team member can also create an individual invitation, customized with your own photos, words of encouragement to your potential team members and recruiter links. To create a workspace, go to the nedUganda group page @ http://www.ned.com/group/neduganda/ At the top of the group page look in the brown bar for the workspace tab. Click on it, then click on workspace/new page. You will need to choose a unique name for your page that is different from any other workspace name. *click4kireka* or *click4gulu invitation from George* will both work, though if the workspace name is too long it will make the profile of anyone who visits it or works on it look a bit funny, so try to keep the name short. If you want to create a workspace but need some help, recruit some of the more experienced nedsters to your team and ask them to give you a hand. ---- :Author: Grace Ayaa :Date: Sun, 17 Feb 2008 10:23:27 PST Hope these tips are giving you more on what to do to get more points.
