What would make Ned.com a better experience and allow you as a community member to get more done? What features have you seen on other sites you like that might work well here? What other new things might you like to see?

Please add your ideas by first joining this group, then editing this page and adding your own idea at the bottom.

Once you add something hear, or simply read something you would like to comment on, here is the discussion thread for that. All ideas are welcome, valuable, and very much appreciated.

Month 2008 Sponsors - nine text links middle top site, all linked to one workspace. text links the grey color of (my groups, my discussions, etc)

Syndicate groups capability allowing content to run on other sites, but managed from ned.com so web masters can embed threads/groups into their existing sites

Port over o/net certain groups/threads to Ned into existing/new groups thread. Also allow users to pull o/net profile news items into their profiles too. Will need permission from active users that did not "sign" the CCAL to use content at Ned. Users may have to pay a small free to port (or suck) content over to help defray tech dev time for this

Fix broken "|" formatting feature

To Personal links: add: facebook, kiva, youtube, twitter, amazon wish list, netflix queue rss, linked-in,

Standard sized member picture in profile

Have/Want listed in profile that also feeds to single page and expires over a 30 day period. Perhaps limited to 1-3 have/wants per user, most recent at the top.

Under personal profile add: address, phone, email (as options) (maybe shared with just people a member has given points to)

Rotating Ned "tagline" written by members under logo that is then linked to their profile (which is where the line was pulled from to begin with)

Make need to join a group to makes workspace changes turned off as default

Would be nice to add entire personal profiles to my watch list, so any new messages pop up username/profile additions

Twitterish-like feature, ala Facebook..ohh, maybe even goal/action related...today I want to, today I, today's action it...

Now that o/net is closed, lets remove vertical green stripe on left of site

Would be cool if when a member posts to a group for the first time there is a default turned on that would automatically have them join that group too. This could be turned off under settings, but this feature would help members find their own posts/content again.

Dedicated hosting with nightly backup to different DNS/box/location

Other changes...

Add to titlebar: ned.com - Ned is an all-volunteer, member-governed, online social network with members collaborating and taking action locally, nationally & globally, in order to make the world a better place.

Could or should Who's Online include and XXX/number unregistered guests?

The help, my watch list, footprints, groups i own, my other groups, who's online all could have expand/fold collapsible triangle icon

Main page index design that allows for 7 content modules that each lead to an inside Ned group/thread, maybe?

Perhaps change PM's from Administrative User to read Nedster

Make the "join" button for groups have better UI visibility

Non-members would be nice if the "Join Now" had a graphic color starburst pop, to be more easily seen

Would be pretty cool if mousing over a member user name brought up tags that had been assigned that member, would it?

Easy propogation/sharing tools: Stumble It!, Share on Facebook, Digg This!, Save to del.icio.us, • Email this, Technorati Links, see image map on propogation tool at AboutUs http://www.addthis.com/

RSS feed of what's new, and people

Open the "bug/tracker" tab on all groups

l2. HBAB (hit by a bus) backup plan for Jim & Mark

WYSIWYG (aka TinyMCE) workspace editing (anne marie bellavance)

Written DOS plan of attack, steps a-z

Track RRS feed in nightly User Report

Central mass shared calendar Nedsters can add events they are attending

See WiserEarth Latest Updates

Threaded inbox discussions at Facebook are nice

What would Mobile Ned be like?

Today's date

User driven color palette selection

profile percentage done meter, ala linked-in

birthdate, but not year in profile

Log meter, a tab that shows Monthly/ongoing accumulated time members spend on the site, in days/hours/minutes

Have the option to split personal news into private AND public viewing categories. Example - my "Does my bum look big in this photo?" thread stays private (!!!) but my "What is the best mistake you have ever made?" thread can be viewed publicly. (Gayle)

Design

A workspace with the advisory board information, pictures and such

Ned Flash tour: finding content, how to use the website

Private group space with:
1. group calendaring
2. project management/task tracker
3. customizable group home page
4. group member usage tracker/reporting tool - rss/exportable data

Hi guys, hope you're fine. I would like to discuss about certain project having to do with agriculture modernaisation. Am in Uganda but am touched by the level of agriculture in my country, which I think is the same case in the whole of Africa and probably some other parts of the world.

I still think that it's the main cause of the rate of famine in many parts of the world that is claiming people's lives.

<ned> Network

Replace this text with your own description of this group.

Contents

Getting Started

Announcements

Directory

Getting Started

A workspace is different. It's a place where people can work on writing
documents together. Anyone can edit, assuming the group permissions
allow it. Just click Edit on the menu bar at the top of the screen, and
you'll see what I mean.

As you begin to edit more and more complex documents, it's important to
keep this plain text clean. Don't be overly concerned about the
presentation of your document; instead, focus on the content and
readability in the plain text. If it isn't readable in the Edit box,
your colleagues won't be able to contribute.

One fun thing about workspaces is that you can create new pages just by
naming them in your document. For example, here's a new page now:
Sandbox Notice that it's a single word, and followed by a single
underscore. If I wanted to create a page with multiple words, I would
enclose the page in back-ticks, like this: My experiments To get
that, I typed this: `My experiments`_

But remember, just creating a new page doesn't make it easy to find. And
if other people can't find your page, what's the point of working on it?
Make sure you don't create orphans. Always think about linking to your
pages from a Home page of some sort. If you can't think of a Home page
for your pages, then at least use an Index page to gather them all in
one place.

Now, another tip on how to format your documents. Remember, the plain
text is the most important thing: it has to be readable to be useful.
So, use plenty of white space. Always leave a blank line between
paragraphs, and before and after headings or lists. Just take a look at
the plain text of this document, and you'll see what I mean.

Also remember to start every paragraph at the left edge of the Edit box;
don't indent paragraphs like they taught you in typing class. If you
indent a paragraph in the plain text, it will end up indented a lot more
on the web page. Use that to your advantage when you like, but
sparingly.

Beyond that, there are a few fancy tricks you might want to learn as you
get more familiar with this workspace. Be sure to refer to the
/help/Punctuation Help document to learn more if you get stuck.

Now, it's time to get back to work!

Announcements

Add announcements here

Directory

Items you may want to include in your group workspace.

People

Projects

Resources
