Will Click For Art: Online Marketing Workshop for Artists and Organizations

Discussion

From the technically outlandish to the tactical and the practical, how can artists market themselves online and maybe even enjoy doing it? Online marketing: what works, what doesn't, how to do more of the first and less of the second. Discover oodles of free online resources that will bring more and more visitors to your web site. Web 2.0, what is THAT all about? Luddites and technophobes, maybe they are on to something? Time for a new web site, now what? What is the one single most important thing to consider when you are building your web presence? Good principals of user interface, information architecture and navigation structure that will not make your teeth sweat. Peer web site reviews if time and desire allow.

From the "technically outlandish" to the tactical and the practical, how can artists market themselves online and maybe even enjoy doing it?

Now the ethnically outlandish?...that's one to think about. Well, we decided to simply leave well enough alone and just make the edit.

Ahh, the internets...

Name, arts focus, what's the internet done for you lately?

1989 founded Arts Marketing Association a newsletter and consulting group for marketing directors of performing arts groups which was then sold to John Zorn as it then became: Arts Reach

1996-2003 CEO/President, Advertising Agency 96-03: Clients such as P&G, Nextel, Disney, and Outpost.com. One of the top 20 interactive advertising agencies according to Adweek magazine. Profitable from 1996 through 2001. 7.1 million in annual revenue. 40+ staff. Office in Portland, San Fran, and NYC. Crashed and burned in 2002.

2004-present founder Ned, a global, all-volunteer, member-governed, online social network (in combination with real-world locations) that is made up of social entrepreneurs, activists, artists, social purpose enterprises, grassroots nonprofit, non-governmental, and community-based organizations, and is collaborating and taking action locally, nationally & globally, in order to make the world a better place.

Time for a new web site, now what? Luddites and technophobes, maybe they are on to something? What is the one single most important thing to consider when you are building your web presence? Good principals of user interface, information architecture and navigation structure that will not make your teeth sweat.

What doesn’t work about your web site...

Poorly crafted web sites. Poorly designed user experiences. Static, non-dynamic, boring sites. Broken web sites. Broken links. Poor email response time. Hard to find contact information.

What should work about your web site...

Good domain. Give users a domain that is interesting...and helps build your brand.

Fresh content. Daily, weekly, or monthly...let em know.

Great user interface. No scrolling please.

Helpful navigation. Know where you are.

Fantastic user experience. Make visitors want to return again and again.

Interactivity. Make em click and do stuff.

Relationships.

Connection.

Authenticity.

Email sig file.

Follow the artists, know the artist, paper beaded bracelets selling real world versus digitally online.
