For years and years and years I tried to explain the banana concept in terms of an alternative currency that could be earned in a variety of ways. I never found the language skills to do so effectively, and awarding bananas for various non-income generating tasks was a persistent problem. That said, if there was ever a good time to change the system, now would be a good time. I'm thrilled to have other people give a go at refining the bananas system.
