Arach Hellen is a married woman with eight children who are all school going age. She was originally from Northern Uganda but she came to Kampala in 1996 when Northern Uganda was experiencing Kony's rebel activities. This forced her to move her family away from the region and they settled in an IDP camp known as the Acholi Quarters.
When she settled in Acholi quarters , life was not easy. The only real source of income was to work in the rock quarry. Later she joined Life in Africa and was able to participate in the paper bead project which has enabled her to make additional income. But she and her husband are working hard and are always looking for ways to increase the income that sustains their large family.
They have acquired a plot in the Acholi quarters and their plan is to construct a simple mud two room house that they will rent out. Housing is in high demand and they will be able to rent each room out for 20,000/= per month. This will increase their income by 40,000/= each month which will improve the families standard of living. It will only take two weeks to build the house and they can have tenants move in within two days.
She and her husband have saved 300,000/= and now seeking for a loan in the amount of 250,000/= to add on and make this plan happen. They will be able to repay this loan in 6 month.
