POST IN ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BE BEST FOR BREAKFAST CLUB CHILDREN DURING HOLIDAYS.

Breakfast Club is a name given to a group of children that belongs to members of NED Uganda both at Kampala and Gulu. This Children during holidays and weekends need to have some activities so as to keep them busy ,Creats healthy mind, Phisical fitness and mental development.

The Activities that might be surgested should be in Kampala and Gulu as well.ie have to mirror one another. Life in Africas` Director(Christina)had been organising for the holidays programmes for children such that members` children do come from kampala and meet the children at Gulu we center during the Holidays . It was such a wonderful programme and arrangement.

However there were so many challenges behind that. Travel expences from Kampala to Gulu was a problem as there is no any vehicle or transport means for their programme. Now can any one surgest any programme/Activities that children can benefit from it during holidays and week ends. I will come later with other activities that they used to do.

Thank you for this thread Robert. We all love to see the pictures and hear about the children.

How many children are in the Breakfast club now?

I know that transportion and lodging is expensive and a lot of work organizing to get the two groups together. But you might think about doing a project at both centers that would be an exchange. Like making Christmas decorations to decorate the centers. The kids in Gulu would send them to Kampala and Kampala would send theirs to Gulu. You could also make Christmas cards with notes written inside. They could be exchanged and then displayed on the walls of the centers for all to see and read.

Or maybe they could take pictures and put with a short letter telling who they are to exchange. That way the kids would be able to put a face with the message. I think even the adults would enjoy seeing the cards, letters and photos. It could be a good way to keep connecting.

Robert, can you update us on the week of activities you were organizing around the environment/tree planting theme? Did the kids make it out to the farm to plant trees after all?

Hello all,

Love to see the photos. I have more messages from breakfast club sponsors from the June 2 La Crescenta event. Is there a spot to post them?

Hi Shawn,

I'd say to post them right here. I like to read them too and hopefully we will get some of the Breakfast kids on line soon. Or should we start a new thread and maybe call it "Breakfast Club Chat" or something? I'm open to suggestions.

I will post them here for now. I think I got behind during the transition (sorry about that), not sure if I posted August yet, so here is August. These are very brief, there was just a small space on the form that each sponsor filled out. In addition to their name, address, phone and email, the form asked if there was a special reason for the date, then a line for a message.

August 1: Reason: The 1st is my birthday. Message: Hope all gets better. Matt Peters (CV student)

August 2: Reason: Cause I wanted to give them food that day. Message: Keep hangin' on. Dillon Campbell (CV student)

August 5: The Mansur family

August 8: Message: We love you! Enjoy your breakfast! :-) The Dols family

August 8: Reason: birthday. Message: love/hugs :-) Amber McLeod

August 11: Message: Hope and knowledge that help is coming. Ryan Johnson, CV Student.

August 14: Reason: birthday. Message: Enjoy. Dave and Evanne Drucker

August 15: Reason: my 17th birthday! Message: You are in our prayers & you are LOVED! Shelby Denton, CV student

August 17: Reason: birthday. Message: Hang in there. We are praying for you. Jay P. Morgan

August 20: Reason: 2-yr anniversary. Message: With love! Keep up the good work! Mike & Tracy Egelin

August 22nd: Reason: Anniversary & my birthday. Message: My prayers are with you! Laura Rivera

August 29: Reason: Anniversary. Message: Stay strong & have faith in God. Sungsook Kim (CV vice-principal)

While I was typing August I got the impression that I did already post them on Onet (I think), but it never hurts to read them again.

Here is September:

September 10: Reason: My birthday. Message: Have a wonderful breakfast, everyone! Flanna Borgeson-Leake, CV student

September 11: Reason: Memory for world peace. Suzanne Longfellow

September 20: Reason: Birthday. Lauren Stockly, CV Student (one of the student organizers of the June 2 event)

September 25: Reason: husband's birthday. Message: Hang in there. We love you. Teresa Bandanza

September 26: Reason: It's my birthday. Message: You're all in our hearts and minds! Kaela Green, CV student

September 29: Reason: my birthday. Message: with love. Study hard! Merrily Prescott, elementary school teacher

This is great! I am unsure if you are still wondering about Christmas decorating ideas. What about paper chains to use as garland to decorate doorways, or the ceiling? First cut paper into strips one inch wide. Then glue or fasten one end of a strip to the other end, to form a circle. The next strip is looped through the circle, and then glued, becoming the second link in the paper chain. Continue looping and fastening, and soon the chain will be so long and gorgeous you will just have to hang it up! I have also found that re-using items from nature can create a beautiful look. For example, here I collect pine cones (at my son's insistence!) after they have fallen to the ground. We will decorate them with paint or glue and glitter, and hang these ornaments on the tree.
