LIA COMPUTERS AND SOLAR PANEL

The community members gathered for a meeting to select a name that they would call their project. Many names were mentioned but of all the names that were mentioned, LIA COMPUTER AND SOLAR PANEL was the selected name since it’s what they are after for.

Background:

Life in Africa Kireka is a Community Based Organization and a daughter to Life in Africa Foundation that has existed for 9 – 10 years now. This organization deals with the community local people. Most of these members were forced to live their homes, properties like land, farms among others by the war that was in the northern Uganda(Gulu).Most of these people came and settled on the land that given to them by the king of the Buganda kingdom.

This place they are in is commonly known as the Acholi quarters. When these people were displaced, they had nothing to do for survival. Life in Africa (lia) came up then with its programs of which most of the programs were to train these people on how to make the possible out of the impossible.

Through Art and Craft, these members of the lia community (the displaced) started doing a lot of crafts, selling the4m and earning from that. Their lives that seamed full of darkness, started to get light shining through it. Among the things they were doing were, the banana fiber balls, sowing clothes, fruit basket, doll, bottle tops Christmas ornaments, drinking straw mats, the invisible children bra slate, most of all they were making paper beads jewelries, among others.

A time came when there was lack of market for all these products. Locally, these crafts were bough but once in a while, and as for the community members still wanted to work, have things made and sold, it was tuff time for them, getting back to their past was what they never wanted but it seamed like it was going to happen, most of these people had never gone to school, had no papers to show for any job so it was had for them to get job.

Since Education has no age limit and technology is growing every second, this community needs to be equipped with computer knowledge and the only way to do that is to have computers in place and power. Power has remained a big problem in Uganda and every after two days there is load shading! Generator would substitute but fuel is another expensive thing to use as power solution more especially to a community that is just learning how to crawl!

JUSTIFICATION:

This project will benefit these displaced people, the women, widows, the youth and the Children who will get these training at no cost. This project will also help the Community in that, the staff who will also stop from going to web cafes for internet and computers to do Community work like loan processing, updating children’s program and among other activities.

Activities of the project:

•Trainings of the beneficiaries how to use the computer and internet.

Sustainability of the project:

•The project will allow non members who will pay small fee to come and learn. •The project will hire profession to come and train trainers of trainees and also will seek for volunteers to come and train the Community members.
