This is a companion piece to Sustainability Investment & Governance http://www.ned.com/group/network weavers/news/7/ though it can be read as a collections space for how to map system models .
It is important to know that no true systemic model has practical meaning without interfacing other true suetemic molecules. For example, if people will provde tru answer on degrees of potentail conflict between different coordinates of this molecule then we can predict (bayesian) what compiud expoentila of valut up or down it is already spinning. Should it be spinning the wrong way down to value destruction we can sclae what sort of intervention will be needed linking you to a catlogue of other systemic methods. Wjat you need to do to trasnfrom a system that is brreaching final irreversibly tipping points is diferent from a system that has only recently caught one conflict. However catching a conflict in human relations system terms is always cheaper to prevent than to turn a blindeye to justy as catching a cancerous cell. Whomever coined the saying: if a system aint broke dont fix it is living in a very different world from one when networks multiply more and more system inetrfaces together (as hub, weaving and other common 21st C languages imply)CORE MOLECULE of value multiplication science

Wherever you see yourself as a:
personal hub
a social network of peers (whose colaboration quality and depth through your lifetime has been shown as primary explainer of poverty -Oxford research since 1970s)
an organsiation such as a corpoartion
a cluster of corporations such as a global market sector
a place (socially intended) organisation such as a gov or NGO other including media and professional networks
this trust-flow molecule enables us to trasnparently tick who your personal , interpersonal (including in ter-disciplinary) and organsaitional systems maps are being accouttable too; value multiplication theory shows that anyone you are not measurable too will not get your system attention, and that yoiur hunb will be expoentailaly compounding conflicts onto that coordinate over time - are you sure that teh environment or futuire newtork connectivity makes this a hi-trust startegy to require everyone hubbing their energies around? conversely we are sure in a transparnt world than any such externalisation will over time compound inconvenient truth; to undertsand this you need to explore sustainabilioty exponetial governance
RISK: why true mathematicians value multiply; not just added value chains
the operand multiply is used in maths to map (system of) living flows and inetreactions and future's exponentially compounding consequeneces for human sustainability and sustainability investment

unlike addition which boxes up separtae things; when you put 6 candles in a box unless you set the nox on fire therre will always be 6 candles; if you put 6 people (or life-folrs) in abox this will not be true through time; its absolutely critical that you can aduit multipliers as well as add; this molecule wa used to forecast that Anderson would impode 12 auarters before they did so; the crucial moltipliers was society's trust; according to this model if you seraily abue the trust of a society that has licenes your monopo;y you will eventually be multiplied by zero; Andersen management refused to believe this assuming that fines (however untrue and unfair making more and more money from auditing the likes of Ernon the way Enron commissioned rules for valuinmg utilities) would just be additive
what's useful in system mapping terms is this molecule can always go more micro by asking what molecules are inside , more macro in tersm of what is it contaimned in, as well as em,plore scenraios of inter (perhaps past value was being separated but future value needs brilaint timing in becomeing connected); connected does not need to be on everything; eg elading biodiverse modellers campaign with the idea: compete over serving advantage but colaborate openly around saving teh world from the industry's most specific long-term risk; siilarly nature requires that one system waste becomes anothr's input whereve her spaces get crowded; all we are cliaming is that as a piec in the game of value multipliction goverance desision-makers need to see trhough molecules- the more worlwide themore eprmeant a professional decion (such as a new law) the more vital is moclecular flow mapping

David - travelling lot this week: I certainly intend to keep editing this and the expoentential thread to take into account advice on how to make simpler
I will also look at all map bookmarks people send me- however what I dont want is automated tools for mapping; I want to encourage people to scribble a variety of different patterns (designed round deep contexts) first not be bound by anyone standardisations and automated plotting. I have seen too many disasters of that sort in my life

Chris,
I think I agree with the various propositions you are advocating in your posts here in Network Weaving - but I find your language extremely difficult to follow. Molecular flow mapping and exponentials and transparency all make sense to me - but how do you see "network weavers" employing these concepts in our work?
Have you seen Using a Better Map? and Whole System Design? Those are describing how things look different when we think in terms of the "flows" through the system as opposed to the interaction of "objects" within the system. Is that similar to the concepts you are describing?
