Trust Map of Water -with help from research by http://waterangels.blogspot.com

This is of extreme interest to me (the mathematician and mapmaker which are my foci)- about 9 years ago I knew nothing practical about ecology flows around the planet other than wishing since 1984 that we would invest in abundant photosynthesis of solar, and knowing that in the 40 countries I had worked in -cultures and poverty and much else about humanity's consequences (especially womens lives) ultimately were conditioned by whether you had a comly life with clean water- neither too little nor too much of it

Here this flow has 2 different ways forwards

Way Ahead 1

It is such a pity that anita roderick is no longer with us because at least out of the uk she flowed harmoniously the right combination of knowhow about women, water, fair trade to mobilise good sense that is now transparently needed. She also made it clear that bolivia was an epicentre of people power for water beacsue they had already had to fight the bechtel/usa gov war there to regain democracy. Bechtel had got one government to pass a law making it illegal to colect rainwater - the carbon copy of british imperialism making salt collection from sea water illegal- which becane Gamdhi's and the one and only peace march worth spending citizen time concerned with bottom billion peoples on (there are a zillion ways to network and open space a more informed revoltion than street marching)

We (ie mainly john blundell's http://www.simpol.org assisted by faith people like peter challen and mike brady and some early colaboration cafes http://collaborationcafe.blogspot.com and then during make poverty history and 7/7 year patrick moore and 40 people who came to the islington hub on open space invitaion dont come unless your number 1 issue is expoentially colapsing http://saintjames.tv ) started a 20 person bookclub around her book on water at London's European Social Forum 2004 but I had to relocate across atlantic late in 2005 soon after that and although the catholic church in brazil was one organisation that wanted to distribute local water knowhow through its 9000 branches and we were introduced to effectively the head of its water university, I have failed to keep connecting that network around rich citizens who most needed to unlearn before they could help. 90% of green debates in rich cities are noise sponsored by big business interests (as chaotic in the own way as the ban the bomb peace movements that were actually sponsored out of Moscow in the 1960s) and going nowhere that will integrate the planet in sustainability in time.

Back oct 2006, 2 londoners whom I met whose expertise could have been epicentral in mobilising more common sense in london promised to use some funds I lent them to start that and then never flowed anything that I cold understand. By now we were supposed to have hubbed a semi-permanent peoples theatre on the most fashionable and hi-profile south bank in Lomdon for debating these sorts of issues everyday until the bbc could no longer ignore 360 degrees debates on ecology as needing more programming and fun than soocer or olympics games. http://saintjames.tv

I have learnt my collaboration entrepreneur lesson -water and ecology is too big a starting place for me to help host debates until or unless my peers and I in rich cities are trusted by the majority of the 100,000 grassroots service networkers in bangladesh. http://yunuspartners.com

Way Ahead 2

Then I met several people who told me their life-stories at local community levels about clean water. It became evedent that water is the most simple system flow of all that there should be a 1st to 12 grade curriculum of at every school but starting with the challenges water gives to our locality and how these may be 100% opposite of another. And so why schools need to encourage every 5th grader to be able to host small openm space circles with cross-cultural compositions - something both harrison owen 300,000 open spaces experienced, and lucknow the gandhi-montesorri 300,000 5th graders experienced support with their lifetime alumni netowrks and which we published in world citizen guides http://www.valuetrue.com/home/ga llery.cfm?startrow=3 that a small team of people helped edit but failed to distribute for erasons that never really became clear other than hosting large meetings was something at the start of 007 they said was a main wish and competence but by middle of 07 had drowned in some vanity of software destruction exercises of mindnumbing trust mapping impact on just about everyone else - or so it seems

Globally and geopolitically it also became evident that the world's largest water utilities and their construction partners were:

-not capable at 90% of extreme local problems of water

-were in least transparent cases suddenly being drive by privatise profit extraction do not solve social problems let alone share how ignorant each of our global boxes is about the hundreds of different mini-croses of water that need to be surveyed at each local place to profile what solutions it most needs.

Water, Water, Water (everywhere but not to drink) WebWebWeb everywhere but to winwwinwin

In other words if the www's does not open source water knowledge for the poor, we are all heading at exponentially destructing speed towards extermination; equally if we could stand up http://futuresunited.com for water transparency we would simulataneous learn stuff about how higeher order transparency needs to be systemised into every organisational typology from local contexts up if we are not to spin ever more conflicts (ie if we are not to spin ever more poverty among the bottom billion)

Peter Burgess reports New York breakthough transparency of water June 08

so I find your report that transparency is making a concerted effort around water fabulous news; I would love to know who in this circulation lists and who's peers may think tyhis is as good news as I do;its early days now but we do know that the Bangladeshi networks (new development model of social busienss entrepreneurship) priortitses collaboration around water as one of the number 1 first priorities, as the internet for the poor is built for the first time

Whichever locality of the world drives you most, if you will look you will find water and transparency debates come before practising any sustainability good. So I forget whether the transparency and rights gurus peter eigen and mary robinson (both of whom I know mean well but I have no idea what they compound) are still on AfricaPP http://africaplusplus.com (Progress Panel) but eg Muhammad Yunus is. And the African Progress Panel's job is to be the examination scorecard for the leaders of G8. And it issues its scorecard before the G8 meet -its first one is just out. And of course as a public document it may seem to some too polite, but it is unequivocal you dont have the knowledge of the poor for any of the initiatives you wish to comand and control to improve transparency. Raise funds by all means but social business partner them as microfunds, and let people who know how to do CIA banking (community impact analyis and sustainability investment) be youyr tansparency chnagemakers and number 1 network of humanity.

In a way this is what flows as soon as you leave the school door and double loops back as you go back into school

unlike the over theoretical and examined school, experiences this map can connect are:
vocational , what your community desperately needs more peope serving

teamwork practice

what bill drayton calls changemaking -last time I heard him speak he said literally any system with less than 50% changemakes has no future - be that a corporation, a community, a profession, a generatin , a region, a nation; even 20 years ago to make this claim would have been ridiculous- but this ine genertaion on the planet today might more aptly be called the chnagemaker generation than the global one if sustainability of our race is to be the outcome

One contextual issue is that at the start of the year we held a collaboration cafe in Dhaka where we listed the 20 tools citizens most use to openly interconnect their deepest innovation queries: summits, virtual platforms, project hubs, youtubes, yahoogroups, universities, .... and asked who (which cities) knows who to interface these around world changing methodologies like microcredit); what methods or cultures do great collaboration cities use that poor ones dont? We also published our intitial findings in a world citizen guide that was handed out at a 700 person collaboration meeting in london

Which experiments for humanity are peoples in your nation celebrating most openly? Why have the conventional ignorances of entrepreneurial revolution got worse every year since we started questioning them in The Economist of 1976! St James ER study circles : 1 2 3 4 5 6

Who is Changing Philanthropy?
What organisation's models can end the White Man's Burden of charity? What is WMB: WMB1 charity dollar's get one-time spending never investing; WMB2 global charity controls from above never transfers knowhow; WMB3 charity ticks performance in boxes not flows that community impact accountancy needs to develop around; WMB4 charity has seldom destabilised a corrupt regime relying on expediency of working within a broken system than stepping back and seeing how whole change is needed if ever more vicious spirals onto the poorest people are not to be compounded by inconvenient truth; WMB5 Charity as it has evolved in globalisation's last 30 years has had terrifying influence on mass media- with commercial media it has paid exorbitant sums to ad messages that should have been free speech if they truly were life-saving, with public media it has censored debates that could have identified Charity's systemic follies and burdens -its accidental vicious systemisation and cumulative impacts have put "democratic" governments on the defensive where we needed openness and diverse curiosity of leadesrhip, and made the interface between global charity and national governments one of the root causes of loss of sustainability of our species

Does economics (or any of the metrics or law-making professins) have any maps at deep context and conflict resolution levels needed for changing philanthropy

*

Can we transparently discuss the development economics consequences of the 3 different types of investment : Macro Mini, Micro.
Macro has had almost all the funds over the last half century: evidence is in that it is a dismal failure

micro has been the great success story in inspirational and practical ending of poverty but is now at risk from the institutions that failed with macro

mini is potentially the most natural internetworking form but so far has not had the confidence to define its own models borrowing from macro and micro in ways that confuse all of us

Which experiments for humanity are peoples in your nation celebrating most openly? 1 2 3 4 5 6

Between about 2001-2204 linkedin was my main store of whom I knew virtally- I knew quite a lot of people cos I was editing special interest groups at European Union of knowledgeboard.com before they decided that future capitalism networkers who questioned the truth of measurement models were too hot for the EU to give freedom of speech to

as users of linked in will know, linked in also tore up freedom of speech but this time by making connections pay per view

I want to find ways to get back in touch with my olod linked ins so I have decided to publish them here in case you see anyone you want to linkin to. If you were once heavily linking in I encourage you to start weaving in the same way

I am refining the materials at Introduction to Three Dimensional Networking and working at applying these ideas in my community of Denver, Colorado, USA. This is about understanding how the one whole system functions and how we can make it function better. It appears that a necessary first step is to examine three limiting beliefs:

If we believe that someone else is responsible for our plight, such as "the corporations" or "the power elite", then we do not take responsibility for exercising our own power to make the world better.

If we believe that resources are scarce then it is reasonable to assume that life is about the struggle to obtain our share of those resources and there will always be conflict over who gets what share.

If we believe that the market can expand to include all people, we will not be open to explore how we can create complementary systems that heal nature and produce abundance.

I will welcome any comments, criticism, connections, referral or support any reader would care to share here.

Thank you in advance, David Braden.

This project began in London at start of 007 -though some of its ideology can be traced back to Scots in the late 1700s unhappy to be taken over by the most evil superpower nation the world had yet then to see (the slavemaking and empire conquering english, brilinnt as their innovation of industrial revolution infrastructures may have been) and Scots' french allies in liberte, egalite, fraternite. The French took the hot headed route of off with the heads of the royalty who had monopolised capital and commons until nobody else could enjoy a productive life; the scots (who before the hostile english takeover had invested more in children's education than anywhere in eupore mapped out what free community microeconomics needed to be systemised around and sent down a journalist to london to become and mp and dsack 90% of felow mps for pork barelling - the media he used to do this began in 1843 : The Economist http://ecosaintjames.blogspot.co m -how times and media missions and definitions of measurable truths change!)

Vested interest disclaimer: as a child brought up in london with a Mac-long family tree of scottish ancestors whose longest job was working in paris - I can actually wish to see the best of each of french, scottish and english community and communocations systems however I realise that we are always destned to get the worst of 3 cultural systems unless we work immensely (lovingly, relentlessly, adaptively, naturally, curiously, openly) at the boundaries of understanding that interface them; the urgency of this particular problem http://www.normanmacrae.com/netf uture.html of course exponentially accelertaes the more we now network and make geography a historic cost to what we search to sustanably market, produce and demand)

The number 24 is arbitrary - it could be 10 or 50

The idea of a trust map is to identify the deepest 24 sustainability crises: banking, food prices, too much carbon energy too litle solar, water, rotten education, poor communal healthcare, maddeningly untrue media, professions whose monopolies have been sponsored by the big instead of their true. fair and hippocratic origins, conflicts between 2 or more cultures who seem -at least to a mathematician who tries not to be partisan between gods - to be arguing over history's accidental wordings of what good commandments keeps the human race nature's number 1 evoluionary ally, you name it - on the planet http://wholeplanet.tv - again discussion is needed on this - and if cities in different hemispheres start with different 24 listings that doesnt matter - we can later translate- if something is critical to people of your place, you can bet it has the seeds of being criotical to children if not people of every place

once you have defined the context of a trust map, the godwill multiplication search tutrns systematically to who is most trusted in the world to collaboratively network community up and open source solutions- we are taking the approach that poor or disconnecetd (digitally divided) communities usually get hit forts by sustainability crises whether that's new orleans or mynamar, or ...

somewhere between this deep voice gravity and the worldwide web and mass media and all te other noise citizens also need to work out:
who among us has a lifelong mission to connect with tehse deep solution networks

how do we collabortaively help the few citizens we connect so get closer and closer; and if we achieve that how will they reciproctae win-win-wins

the more you look at the start of a trust m,ap the more you realise it is best to tirage conversations vbefore deciding who in your city or across inter-cities you network truly cares most about being on which map

this becomes more difficult since progress towards the deep voices will not be even; the last thing one wants is people chnaging their so-called missions in life just because one group is getting linked in faster than another

all of the above may sound quite tricky to orchestrate- we have spent at elast 10 years using the net and open space to get to the awareness that anything more separated than this is unlikely to get people in rich cities actually helping chnage the system - after all poverty - the billion at the bottom of the pyramid - is a ssytem fault governed out of riuch cities- and until or unless we transform crashing sustainability expoentials, the whort-term rewards (including making a living, power to decide etc) go with the old regime even as it images over the crises making noises that it wants to be responsible while profiting from actioning the opposite

trust map 1 in a sense needs to be the odd one out of te other 23 because it does need to be the geateway, tirage space, the profiling of whose mission needs to be snapped onto which map

so its about what hi-trust media can citizens co-create and interface -media in every snese from citizen meetings to hyde park corners to petitions to blogs to youtubes to virtual communities to cable community tv to mass tv to being on the frong page of google next time your sustainability crisis is searched by netizens

here is a script some new yorkers and I used on a cable tv discussion of the values (even the language, ideology) that co-hosting such media seem to need

if we can edit these values, we can then start to trust map where are these citizne media interfaces- indeed is ned one of them?

In the 10 years or so of watching the biggest youth events of the year, I have gotten pissed off; usually the great and the good take over the stage; cram the audience with youth; say pretty things that they go off and systemise the opposite of the next day; and leave youth with no after action debriefing connections (no resources, no meetin spaces, in poor countries not even a glass of water) to move forward with productive work or community building experiments

I exaggerate a tad - but I am sure that anyone who is concerned for youth - as a dad of a 11 year old I promsie you I am - the whole darn education circus is a failed system - both in rich hemispheres and poor

so can we in this thread use open space "colaboration" rules - ie if you disagree with this video,

By any measure our collaboration blog searchers -30000 projects; 50 collaboration cities and gravity200 and supporters webs eg africanidol etc ... have been able to track over the alst 5 years, microcreditsummit is the most successful network. In a 10 year period it set and achieved its aim of giving 100 million families access to a way out of poverty
But what else makes it so successful? I am loading materials from http://results.org who independently stage the conference so you can read through and help us add ideas

Here are a few starters

unlike eg clinton global, this is a people's network though its graced by the great and the good including the most popular Queen Sofia of Spain; its pretty well open for anyone but you do have to send in an action plan for all to debrief as well as come from a declared interst of which there are over a dozen

next this is knowledge-area in the making (how to do world banking the other way round from global down) thus offering huge career ops as well as social returns if its done right, as well as hopefully fail fast amd low cost where's its done wrong

It seems too that right and wrong has at elast 4 interfacing layers

1 the social politics of where loans come in the first place- why eg is over a third of French aid to africa now in microcredit form but less than 1% from the world bank; why is a type of banking which done at its most secure has higher rates of loan repayment than anywhere else on the planet typically not permitted to start its credit off where less safe banks are; how does one gets a lonn from another country which wont go up if the recipient country's currency falls through the floor

2 how to efficiently use technology and human service to operate the microcredit bank at a fair rate - see tough question from 9 year old on this

3 what the ownership structure of the bank is

4 probably the biggest development exponential agenda of all - if the point of the whole exercise is to compound sustainability in a community that has never previously had any such thing, what is it that members subscribe to in co-building community beyond repayng loans; and are there any corrupt or warring influences that must be taken out of the picture before a safe local banking service can be developed
