About

Kaduna State in Nigeria is a fertile and in some parts beautiful place. Situated North of the capital, Abuja, Kaduna is a mainly agricultural area, where roads are sparse, but serviceable, only Kaduna City itself can really lay claim to being a built-up area, although a fair few towns dot around the state. Kaduna's agricultural areas are dotted with corroded tractors, destitute processing factories and unsustained businesses of many kinds. It is home to 6m people - the Northern area is mainly Muslim and the Southern is mainly Christian. It is therefore a state, where religious rivalry often rears its head. Thus Kaduna, with a few notable and worthy exceptions is a microcosm of failed African opportunity, but where success in tackling its problems could spell a methodology for success throughout the remainder of rural Africa. My hope is that I can enthuse NED members to help tackle some of the issues of Kaduna, by commenting on existing and proposed projects that I have seen or am currently involved with. I am working with Ashoka Fellow, Emmanuel Nehemiah, a brilliant animateur of NGOs, cooperatives and rural-dwellers alike. His organisation is here to serve the rural people of Kaduna and Nigeria in whatever way benefits them quickly and efficiently.
