I am committed to the idea that the performance of the international relief and development sector has been compromised in large part because there has been a serious lack of transparency and accountability at almost all levels of the sector from the top of the World Bank to the junior staff of government and NGOs. I am also an optimist because of the availability of great science and technology that can be used to improve socio-economic productivity at all levels of society ... and the possibilities for professionals to change the direction of development.
