:Title: Sloooooooooooooooooooow Internet :Author: Linda Nowakowski :Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2008 23:57:29 PST :URL: http://www.ned.com/user/u523412994/news/21/ Before I left to come here to western Thailand I made arrangements to get a mobile modem that use the mobile phone network so that I would be ableto access the net for many reasons. Guess what? It doesn't work here. There are **NO** internet cafes. (at least within 2 hours) I have bartered for use of the school internet connection and have to teach 3.5 hours for them next week. I am living with 120 Karen girls from 5 to 15. These girls are diligent and work unbelievably. They have no adult supervision and the only real service provided for them is a cook who was hired by a friend of mine to prepare 2 meals a day for them. The cost is a lot and the food is not sufficient. I feel like I have to figure out a way to get them a proper diet. There are about 80 boys who live at the Temple. The situation requires more time than I have on a connection that is as slow and as reliable as the Ugandan connections. I think of all of you and wish I could talk to you and get your input. Please don't forget me while I am gone. Missing all of you.
